CyBook

It's not very hard to become addicted. CyBook makes you want to read more and more. If you are interested in CyBook, you could find the technical specification on bookeen.com

CyBook Gen 3
Pro:
  • it's slimmy and light. That makes the reading very pleasant and easy
  • it creates that special feeling of reading on paper because the letters have the endings just like in a paper book, with very small edges of ink. In fact, the name states it clear: ePaper.
  • it's easy to use; for turning the page you only have to push a button.
  • it is economical; one charge of the battery is enought  for many books because CyBook only uses th energy when turning the page
  • the font can be increased as you desire
  • you can bookmark the pages you like or the ones you last read
  • it has a special lether case to protect it that can be succesfully used while reading also. And if you do, you have the feeling of having a two faced pages book on your hand
  • CyBook uses SD memory cards to extend its internal memory. With the maximum of 2GB, you can store more than 100 books; you can use even the same card as the one from your camera
  • you can store images and make a slideshow in black and white
  • you can listen audiobooks
  • it's biggest PRO on the list is the fact that the reading in very easy, confortable and way more restful for the eyes. The difference between reading on CyBook and reading a paper book is not very big, but comparing to the reading on the screen of a computer, CyBook is way less tiring. The lines are easy to follow, the fonts can be ajusted and you can import as many as you like.
Con:
  • the contrast between the letters and the background is not very good. Although CyBook 3 has improved the contrast compared to earlier releases, the background is not white; it's a fade grey and the eye needs a moment to adjust
  • you need a good source of light because it doesn't provide a background light. But you have to avoid exposing CyBook to the direct sun light.
  • the charge of a new page takes few seconds (2, maximum 3) and sometimes this slows you down from the action of the book, especially if you are a fast reader
  • when you read a book, you don't have the page number bellow or the numebrs of pages you have left; you only have a transition bar
  • when you have many books in CyBook 's library and the ones you are reading are not among first ones, you have to scroll and remember the page for further refference
  • the headphones needed for listening audiobooks have a smaller part to connect with the device than the ordinary ones
  • the books have to be saved in a special program, provided with CyBook. Not all .pdf documents work and .doc or .txt formats require conversion. But the good news is that the program converts the files in few seconds and offers the possibility of saving the converted boks directly on CyBook if the device is connected.
  • if a book has special characters, sometimes throught conversion they become squares or symbols, hard to read. The solution I found until now is to find and replace the special characters before conversion
  • the biggest CON of all is that no one can resist it and you have to share it :)
