Does age matter?

My boyfriend and I have...an interesting relationship to say the least. We are 27 years apart in age which is not an issue between us, however, we believe our relationship will not be viewed in the same light by family and friends.

I am 20 years old and he is 47 years old. We never expected things to unfold as they did. We had known each other for about a year prior to the night we got together. And although we were both aware of a mutual attraction towards the other, neither of us took it further than flirting because of our age difference. One night he invited me over to talk and we discovered our attraction to one another was on deeper levels than either of us could have imagined.

A few years in age difference in a relationship doesn't matter that much. When it's a huge gap though, it does matter. You guys are at completely different stages in life. Question is, why does an almost 50 year old want to have a relationship with someone that just got out of the teens? I'm 19 and my dad is 50. How old are your parents? This isn't going to be a functional relationship. What about having kids? You need to be around people your age that are experiencing the same things in life that you are. People that are going through the same stages and dealing with the same issues. Is this really a romantic relationship or is it more of a security/comfort thing? I understand that you might have feelings for this person, but it's really really not healthy. What your friends and family thinks about your relationship really does matter. I don't think it's good for either one of you. Sorry :/
