Job interviews over the telephone

An unconventional job interview can be a new challange or a very unconfortable situation. Let's see the pros and cons.

Pro: 
  • you can get in touch with professionals from other areas than yours
  • you can find the basic information
  • it's a good option for the first stage of a job interview
  • it might be a good strategy for head hunting
  • the costs are significant smaller than the ones involved in covering the transport and accommodation for applicants from other regions
  • the conversation can stick to the point naturally
  • there's no eye contact to worry about; no good or bad cloths to wear
  • there is a lower level of pressure related to making a good first impression
Con: 
  • a job interview over the telephone has a big disadvantage:  the applicant and the employer can't see each other, their gesture and reaction - aspects very important from creating a general impression
  • technical problems (network coverage, for example) could ruin a job interview by the phone
  • a common job interview, with parties meeting at a specific location, it is an opportunity to gather information both on employer and applicant; the way he/she talks, reacts, presents, the attitude can be as important as the knowledge and experience
  • there is always a problem of establishing identity (is he/she really who he/she says?)

New pro con lists

  • live on campus or commute?

    So I am torn between living on campus next year or continuing to commute. my friends are getting an awesome on-campus apartment and I really want to live with them. However.

    I have been with this guy for about 4 months and things were pretty good until he broke his leg. He became very hard to deal with and started being rude to myself and my children.
