Marching Band

I am a Freshman in High School. I play the flute, and I am very good. Last year, I decided that I would not do Marching Band. Now, I am thinking if I should do marching band or not.

Pro:
  • All of my friends are in Marching band.
  • It's something to do.
  • It is trip year, so I would go to Disney World for 5 days.
  • I would make my friends and the band directors happy.
Con:
  • I am a dancer and practice a minimum of 13 hours a week. I have a very hectic schedule and it would be hard to work marching band into it.
  • I don't really like the band directors.
  • The other members are geeks.
  • They practice a lot (rain or shine, Hot or cold)
  • They have to go to camp.
  • I would have less time with friends and family or too relax.
  • I wouldn't be able to go on vacation to Europe over the summer.

I think that you should be in the marching band. It will look good when you apply to schools and it will give you a sense of accomplishment. If all your friends are there then do it and forget about the geeks... but get to know them don't be so quick to judge they just might be some cool people who might be a good asset to you one day. And the trip to disney should be enough of a reason...!! and you get to go to the sporting events with all the football players :)

Con arguments

From what you said...No

When I first read your opening sentence I thought you should join the marching band. High School extra curricular activities are so fun, open you up to new experiences and are memories you can enjoy for the rest of your life.

But then I saw your pro's and con's list and I'd say no.

You already are doing dancing so adding something else that it sounds like you're not really that into ("it would make my friends happy" not it would make YOU happy) might make you have less time to really excel at either of them.
