Move to Washington or California
I am trying to decide if I should move to Washington or move to California from Kansas to get in-state residency and attend college. I am choosing between Humboldt State and Evergreen State. Ahhhhhh. I am going to go do the Pros for moving to Washington.
Washington Pros:
- Evergreen state is a good fit academically.
- I would meet like-minded people in Olympia.
- Washington probably has cheaper housing than California.
- I like the town of Olympia for it's art/music scene.
- I won't need a car, except that it rains a lot.
- Close enough to Seattle airport.
- I can start school "instantly" after residency.
- I could potentially have enough money to go to SE asia while "faking" my residency and helping Sara out.
- Evergreen is a bargain for in-state residents.
- It's next to the Pugent Sound, which would be awesome for kayaking.
California Pros:
- I WANT to live in California.
- I could move back to Berkeley for a year, a city which I love. Or Lake Tahoe Community College - either way, i would save a lot of money going to a CC first.
- I'd have residency and easier acceptance to some of the best schools in the country. More room to change my mind later down the road...
- I would have better job connections, since I actually want to live in California- finding a job post-college might be easier by my college.
Washington Cons:
- It rains all the time so walking will suck, and my mood could suck because of the rain.
- Evergreen might be too radical, thus hard to get into a good masters program.
- Evergreen might not prepare me for the challenge of getting my masters.
- Evergreen might be a better school to get my masters/phd.
- Being a resident of Washington isn't that beneficial to me in the long-run.
- I don't really want to start my life in Washington.
California cons:
- Humboldt State is really also a bit rainy, and chilly.
- Santa Cruz could be too touristy for me and it's more expensive than Evergreen State.
Pro arguments
best college
If you want a great education then move to the state that has the better education/college.
Con arguments
You seem like you are more excited about California
You seem more excited about Humboldt, but Evergreen has some more logical benefits.
Choosing a school is really hard and if you like both programs I would think about the location that you'll like the most, since you'll be living there for several years. Look at craigslist to see how expensive it really is to rent a room in both places, and see what kind of transportation you'll have access to. Those details will help.
