Online learning

Learning in the old fashion way or in a new and challenging enviornment? Is meeting news people and socializing more important then learning?

Pro:
  • you have access to specialities that may not be available in your city
  • if you want to learn a foreign language, there is no better way than to join a program from a particular country
  • you can have a full time job and still be a good student
  • in many cases, it is cheaper, because online learning doesn't involve going to classes, paying money on transport and lunches, suitable wardrobe and so on
  • distance learning offers the advantage of flexibility - you can continue having the same schedule as always and still pay attention to your education
  • the submition for online learning programs is usually quite simple
  • online "classes" can help easily intimidating people to communicate better
  • you don't have to look smart, make a good first impression, make strategic friends for having the courses
  • the tests given online are more rigorous and less intimidating
  • you can listen the music you want while learning:)
Con:
  • classes represent a good way to meet new people with similar interests as you
  • the practical area is most of the times limited
  • sometimes it's harder to concentrate
  • the feedback is slower
  • reading online is more difficult
  • online learning requires some basic computer skills, a computer, a good connection at the Internet

Pro arguments

Active participation

If online learning is monitored and used for grade, students are more likely to do work and engage (they can sit in class and be quiet, doing little or not preparation...online their presence and involvement is noticed).
