Relationship

I met my boyf about 10 weeks ago, he is separated with 3 kids who live with their mum. Their marriage ended as he had an affair with his wife's best friend, at which point his wife moved back home to be closer to family and friends. About 5 weeks into our relationship, I was away overnight @ my friends with my wee one, we spoke on the phone before bed, all seemed fine. That night he attempted to hang himself, and called the ex gf, not me! The next 5 weeks has been hard, he has saught help, drugs, shrink etc, and things havent been all bad, been to a wedding etc together. Then last w/e his ex gf called him out of the blue to see if he was ok (5 wks later), she doesnt want him back in any way, he thinks he still loves her, though wants to work at a future for us. At the moment, he is away seeing his kids til Sunday, with that being D-day for me one or another.
I dont know what to do or what to think, I really like him, we get on great, great with my child etc....
