Shopping spy

Looking for a new job? Do you want to change your area of expertise? We propose a very unusual type of job: shopping spy. Is it suitable for you?

Spy
Pro:
  • many people, especially women, like to go shopping. If this could be their job, wouldn't they take it?! A shopping spy is a special client, sent by a specific company to pay attention to how clients are treated and to feel the "pulse" of the activity in the shop
  • you are paid for shopping, for being nice with sellers, for yelling at them or for making them unconfortable
  • your scheduale is flexible and you can be a shopping spy after the normal working hours you do at your full time job
  • shopping spies are usually working for big companies that pay attention to how their products are presented in stores and how their employees try to sell their brands
Con:
  • it's not a very ethical thing to do: you are a spy; sometimes you have to push the limits and see what happens, to observe how the shop's employees react on a particular situation, usually not a pleasant one
  • you have to create a stressy atmosphere, to act differently than you naturally would
  • you have to pay your role; shopping spies have to be plesant or annoying clients, easy to convince or angry pottential buyers
  • depending on your report, people might get fired
  • shopping spy jobs are not easy to find, especially in the small towns where everybody knows everybody or in towns where there aren't too many companies to pay for such a job
